KACHIN WOMEN SOILDERS

The KIA is the military wing of the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) that was founded in 1961 and signed a cease-fire agreement with the government on 1994. The agreement was broken after 17 years when Myanmar’s military and the KIA resumed fighting in 2011. Recruits from all religions can apply for the KIA’s open Mong Seng Yang military training, provided that they already are 18 years old. The training takes 45 days and includes military training, history of the Kachin ethnic group and law.
